Sherpur, Oct. 4 -- A university student was found dead in the Mrigi River in Sherpur on Sunday evening, around 26 hours after he went missing.

The deceased was identified as Syed Sadman Joy, 22, a second-year student of Journalism and Media Studies at Stamford University Bangladesh.

A diving team from Jamalpur Fire Service recovered his body from the river in the Bhataraghat area under Bhatshala union around 6:30pm.

According to family members, Joy went to the riverbank with a friend on Saturday afternoon. During a drive by the Department of Narcotics Control, his friend was detained with drugs and later sent to jail by a mobile court.
