Dhaka, June 22 -- A mild earthquake shook Dhaka and several parts of Bangladesh on Monday night around 9:30 pm, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), causing brief panic among residents.

According to a BMD release prepared by Assistant Meteorologist Farzana Sultana, the earthquake had a magnitude of 4.0 on the Richter scale.

The epicentre was located about 16 kilometres east of Dhaka, the release said.
