, July 2 -- A Barishal court on Thursday sentenced a man to death for violating a teenage girl in 2023.

Barishal Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Ashraf Uddin handed down the punishment.

The condemned convict is identified as Alamgir Shikdar, 52, of Ujirpur upazila.

The court also fined him Tk one lakh and asked the local administration to ensure the care and maintenance of the child born following the rape.

According to the prosecution, the convict violated the class IX student when she went to his house on March 3, 2023 in absence of his family members, resulting in her pregnancy and subsequent birth of a child.

On May 21, the father of the girl filed a case with Ujirpur Police Station.
