Sylhet, Aug. 6 -- A tribunal in Sylhet on Thursday sentenced a man to death for killing a 4-year-old girl Fahima after an attempt to rape.

Sylhet Women and Children Repression Tribunal Judge Abu Obaida handed down the punishment.

The convict is Zakir Hossain, 30, son of Tota Mia of Sonatala Paschimpara dhan Rayer Chak area of Sadar upazila.

The court also fined him Tk 5 lakh.

According to the prosecution, Fahima Akter, 4, daughter of Raisul Haque of Sonatala village went missing on May 6.

Later, she was found dead from near a water body on May 8.

Police recovered the body and sent it to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital morgue for autopsy.
