, June 12 -- Police have arrested a man in a case filed on charges of attempting to rape a widow and later abduct her two-year-old child in Lama upazila of Bandarban district.

The arrestee is Md Nasir, 35, son of Maju Majhi of Banshkhailyazhiri Para under Fashiakhali union in the upazila.

Officer-in-Charge of Lama Police Station Muhammad Shahjahan Kamal said police picked him up during a drive in the area early Friday.

According to locals and police, the widow of Banshkhailyazhiri Para was collecting vegetables in a beel near her home around 5:00pm on Wednesday when Nasir attempted to rape her.

When the woman resisted, the accused threatened her with a sharp knife.
