Jashore, Nov. 6 -- A housewife was strangulated to death allegedly by her husband following a dispute over suspicion of extramarital affairs at Shantala village in Jashore Sadar upazila early Friday.

The deceased was identified as Shahanara Khatun, 30, wife of Atiar Rahman of the village.

According to family sources, the couple, who had a son and a daughter, divorced two years ago over mutual suspicion but reunited six months later.

However, marital discord resurfaced between them.

The victim's son, Rayhan, said an altercation broke out between his parents in the early hours. At one point, Atiar physically assaulted Shahanara and strangled her with a towel around 5:30am.
