Mamata Banerjee, Trinamool MPs detained during protest in Delhi
Dhaka, Oct. 10 -- Trinamool Congress chief and former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was detained by Delhi Police on Saturday along with five party MPs while attempting to join the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest in the Indian capital.
Banerjee staged a sit-in at a bus stop in the South Avenue area of central Delhi after police prevented her from proceeding. She was seen with a bandage taped over her mouth during the protest.
Trinamool MPs Derek O'Brien and Dola Sen were among those detained and taken away in a police bus.
"The government is misbehaving with us," Banerjee said in a video statement recorded inside the bus.
"We the INDIA alliance will continue to fight to strengthen people's voice," she added.
