, April 9 -- General António Guterres has announced the appointment of Major General Mohammad Asadullah Minhazul Alam (Bangladesh) as Force Commander of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP).

Major General Alam succeeds Major General Erdenebat Batsuuri (Mongolia), to whom the Secretary-General expressed his deep appreciation for his dedication and service, according to the UN.

Alam brings to the position over 30 years of leadership and command experience in the Bangladesh Army.
