, July 20 -- A tribunal in Chuadanga on Monday sentenced the lone accused to death for the rape and murder of a 10-year-old girl in Jibannagar upazila in 2023.

Judge Md Moktagir Alam of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal handed down the verdict.

The tribunal also fined the convict - Abul Hossain alias Fatik, 29, son of Abu Taher Molla of Bara Masjidpara in Goyeshpur village under Jibannagar upazila - Tk 2 lakh. He was present in the dock when the judgement was delivered.

According to the prosecution, around 11:00am on December 21, 2023, Mariam Khatun, the 10-year-old daughter of van driver Iqbal Hossain of Goalpara village in the upazila, went to collect vegetables in Harivanga field along with several other children...
