Dhaka, Sept. 22 -- A local Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal leader died after falling ill during a protest procession in Barishal city on Tuesday, organised as part of a BNP programme against what the party described as attempts to destabilise the country through planned violence.

The deceased was identified as GM Monir, 55, a resident of the Jor Mosque area of Bhatikhana in the city. He was a joint general secretary of Barishal city Jubo Dal.

Monir complained of chest pain fell ill while taking part in the procession and later died while undergoing treatment at Barishal General Hospital in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, BNP acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi expressed deep shock and sorrow at his sudden death.
