Nilphamari, Aug. 12 -- Several local leaders of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami fell into a river on Wednesday after a wooden bridge collapsed during an inspection in Nilphamari's Dimla upazila.

However, Md Abdus Sattar, Member of Parliament from the Nilphamari-1 constituency and district Jamaat Ameer, escaped unhurt as the section of the bridge he was standing on remained intact.

The accident left three people, including MP's bodyguard Abdul Mannan, injured.

The incident occurred around 11:30am in the Natabari area when the MP was inspecting a wooden bridge built by local residents over the Nautara River.
