DHAKA, Aug. 27 -- Prime Minister's Political Adviser Nazrul Islam Khan has urged people to remain patient, saying it will take time to clear the "mess" accumulated over 17 years of authoritarian rule in the name of democracy.

"I would request everyone to have a little patience. It takes time to remove 17 years of accumulated mess," he said.

He also said six months is not enough time to run the state and called on opposition political parties to come forward in a spirit of cooperation.

Nazrul made the remarks while addressing a discussion arranged to mark the 11th death anniversary of former prime minister and former Jatiya Party (JP) chairman Kazi Zafar Ahmed at the National Press Club in the capital.
