, Oct. 5 -- Israeli troops shot dead a person suspected of attempting to infiltrate an Israeli military position in southern Syria, the Israeli military said Monday.

The incident took place in an area inside Syrian territory that Israel refers to as its "security zone," according to the military. No Israeli soldiers were injured in the incident.

The military did not disclose the identity of the person or say whether the individual was carrying a weapon.

Israel deployed troops into southern Syria after the ouster of Bashar al-Assad in December 2024, taking up positions both inside and outside a UN-monitored buffer zone. The United Nations has called on Israel to withdraw its forces.
