Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed that the military operation was aimed at al-Haddad, who leads Hamas' Qassam Brigades. They described him as one of the key planners behind Hamas' Oct. 7 attack on Israel.
