, Feb. 28 -- Israel has carried out what it described as a "pre-emptive attack" against Iran, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said on Saturday.

In a statement issued this morning, Katz announced a "special and permanent state of emergency" across the country in response to the operation, reports BBC.

Three explosions have been heard in downtown Tehran, according to Iranian media.

The Fars News Agency says it has received reports that several missiles have hit the Republic area of the Iranian capital.
