JERUSALEM, Sept. 5 -- The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Saturday announced overnight airstrikes targeting Hezbollah militants and military infrastructure in southern Lebanon.

According to the IDF, the military action was launched after Hezbollah directed a drone toward Israeli troops positioned in an IDF-held security zone in southern Lebanon on Friday evening. No Israeli soldiers were injured in the drone incident.

The military statement noted that the targets included weapons storage facilities used by Hezbollah to plan and direct attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians.

"The strikes were carried out to remove an immediate threat," the statement added.
