Irene Khan assumes charge as Bangladesh's permanent representative to UN
, Aug. 29 -- Internationally renowned human rights expert Irene Zubaida Khan has assumed office as Bangladesh's new permanent representative to the United Nations.
Irene Khan formally took charge on Friday by presenting her credentials to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at the UN Headquarters in New York.
With decades of international experience, Irene has worked extensively on human rights, international law, refugee protection, the rule of law and sustainable development. Throughout her career, she has held senior positions at the United Nations and other international organisations.
Since 2020, she has served as the UN Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression.
