, June 27 -- Leaders and members of several organisations on Saturday formed a human chain in front of the National Press Club, demanding the construction of a six-lane highway from Bhanga to Kuakata along with several other development projects for the Barishal region.

The hour-long programme, organised by the Barishal Zilla Samity, was held from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.

The participants also demanded construction of a railway line from Dhaka to Kuakata, upgrading Sher-e-Bangla Medical College in Barishal into a university, construction of the Barishal-Bhola Bridge, protection of Barishal from river erosion, supply of gas from the Bhola gas fields to Barishal, and establishment of an Export Processing Zone (EPZ) in the district.
