Sylhet, Aug. 15 -- A housewife reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in Beanibazar upazila of the district on Friday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Ripa Akter, 24, wife of Russell Ahmed and daughter of Abdur Rahman of Poilgram in Charkhai Union.

According to police and locals, Ripa's husband returned home around 1:30 p.m. to find the door of their residence locked from the inside. After receiving no response to his calls, he, along with neighbors, forced the door open and discovered Ripa hanging from a ceiling fan with a scarf (orna) wrapped around her neck.
