Dhaka, July 24 -- Speaker of Parliament Hafiz Uddin Ahmad on Friday assumed the responsibilities of the President in accordance with the Constitution following the resignation of President Mohammed Shahabuddin.

President Shahabuddin submitted his resignation letter to the Speaker under Article 50(3) of the Constitution.

Following the resignation, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed assumed the responsibilities of the President under Article 54 of the Constitution, according to a press release issued by the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat.
