Gold worth Tk 1.10 cr seized, smuggler arrested at Benapole
Jashore, Aug. 5 -- Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a suspected gold smuggler and seized five gold bars worth around Tk 1.10 crore from the Dargah Filling Station area near the Benapole border early Wednesday.
The arrestee was identified as Faruk Hossain, 30, son of Manu Mia of Mobarakpur village under Daudkandi upazila of Cumilla district.
BGB said a team conducted a drive in the Dargah Filling Station area along the Jashore-Benapole highway after receiving a tip-off about gold smuggling.
The team detained Faruk and recovered five gold bars from his possession during a search.
The seized gold weighs 529.64 grams and has an estimated market value of around Tk 1.10 crore, according to BGB.
