Sherpur, June 30 -- and-a-half-year-old girl died after choking on a peanut while visiting her maternal grandparents in Nalitabari municipality of Sherpur on Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Manha Moni, daughter of bank official Md Rubel Hossain, hailing from Sylhet.

According to family members and locals, Manha came to her maternal grandparents' house with her family at Beparipara in Araiani Bazar of the municipality.

Around 2:30pm on Tuesday, Manha accompanied her grandfather to a local school. While eating peanuts there, one became stuck in her windpipe, causing severe breathing difficulties.

Her relatives rushed her to Nalitabari Upazila Health Complex, where the attending physician declared her dead.
