Dhaka, July 24 -- BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday urged people not to pay heed to "rumours" surrounding the possible resignation of President Mohammed Shahabuddin.

While speaking to journalists after attending the inaugural session of the two-day Bengal Delta Conference 2026 at Hotel InterContinental Dhaka, he dismissed the speculation and called on the public not to be misled by unverified information.

His comments came amid widespread speculations that the President may step down in a day or two, citing ill health.
