, July 9 -- Immigration police have detained a former leader of Swechchhasebak League at Benapole International Check Post while he was attempting to leave for India.

The detainee is Shahriar Karim, 45, a resident of Ukilpara area in Jhenaidah and former president of Jhenaidah district unit of Swechasebak League.

Officer-in-Charge of Benapole Immigration Police Saifur Rahman said Shahriar was detained on Tuesday evening when he submitted his passport for immigration clearance.

During verification, officials found that his name on the immigration stop list.

Police said preliminary questioning revealed that a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act is pending against him with Jhenaidah Police Station.
