Dhaka, July 18 -- A retired police officer was killed after being hit by a speeding unidentified vehicle while crossing a road in the capital's Bhatara on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Sekandar Ali, 72, lived in Bashundhara Residential Area.

Victim's son Md Rokon Uddin said around 12:30pm his father was crossing a road in Bhatara when a speeding unidentified vehicle struck him and fled the spot, leaving him critically injured.

He was initially taken to Kurmitola General Hospital and later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead at around 4:45 pm.
