Erosion by Jamuna River in Sirajganj unabated despite falling water level
Sirajganj, June 21 -- Riverbank erosion along the Jamuna River continues in Sirajganj despite a slight fall in the water level, with around 40 metres of a protection embankment collapsing in the Purba Bahuka area of Sirajganj Sadar Upazila.
The collapse occurred on Saturday evening, causing concern among local residents living in erosion-prone areas.
Nazmul Hossain, Sub-Divisional Engineer (Headquarters) of the local Water Development Board (WDB), said emergency work is underway to prevent further erosion.
He said that although the water level of the Jamuna has receded slightly, erosion has continued in several areas.
