Eight killed as landslide hits madrasah in Cox's Bazar Rohingya camp
Cox's Bazar, July 8 -- Eight people were killed and several others injured when a landslide triggered by incessant rainfall struck a madrasah in a Rohingya camp in Ukhiya upazila of Cox's Bazar on Wednesday afternoon.
Four of the deceased were identified as Umme Nesat, 13, and Umme Salma, 11, daughters of Abdus Shukkur from Rohingya Camp No. 3 in Ukhiya, Kausna, 11, daughter of Hasim Ullah from Rohingya Camp No. 5, and madrasah teacher Shamsul Alam.
Ukhiya Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Panna Akter said the incident took place at Sub-block A-3 of the Kutupalong Rohingya camp around 3:00pm, when a large chunk of mud collapsed onto the roof of a madrasah amid incessant rain.
