Dhaka, May 23 -- Al-Mamun, professor and former chairman of the Department of Japanese Studies at Dhaka University, has been appointed a full-time member of the University Grants Commission (UGC).

The Secondary and Higher Education Division under the Ministry of Education issued a notification in this regard on Saturday.

According to the notification, Dr Mamun has been appointed as a UGC member for the next four years under the University Grants Commission Act, 1973. The appointment will take effect from the date of joining.

He has already submitted his joining letter to the UGC chairman, the notice said.

Dr Mamun has also made notable contributions to education and research at the international level.
