Dhaka, Aug. 14 -- addicted man allegedly killed his mother after she refused to give him money to buy drugs at Shyamkur village in Maheshpur upazila of Jhenaidah district early Friday.

The deceased was identified as Shoker Banu, 60, wife of late Zeker Ali, of Paschimpara in the village.

According to locals, the accused, Ikhlas, had been addicted to drugs for a long time and often subjected family members to physical and mental abuse for money to buy drugs.

On Thursday night, he reportedly got into an argument with his mother over money to buy drugs.

Later, in the early hours of Friday, he allegedly attacked his sleeping mother with a sharp weapon and slit her throat.
