Dhaka, July 7 -- The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 555 people and seized a large cache of illegal firearms, ammunition and narcotics during special drives conducted across the capital throughout June as part of its ongoing crackdown on crime.

According to the DMP's monthly crime statistics, a total of 363 cases related to arms and narcotics were filed during the month.

Of these, nine cases were filed under the Arms Act and 354 under the Narcotics Control Act. Police arrested 16 people in arms cases and 539 others in drug-related cases, according to a press release.

During the drives, police recovered four foreign pistols, 88 rounds of ammunition, seven magazines and 20 locally made weapons.
