Dhaka, Aug. 25 -- The Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) on Tuesday clarified a data discrepancy in its recent presentation on factory closures, saying the information was taken from a media report whose original source had not been verified.

The clarification came after Dhaka-based digital investigative news outlet The Dissent raised questions about a figure presented at a media dialogue titled "First Six Months of the New Government: An Economic Review" held on August 24.

In slide 11 of the presentation, under the industry and trade section, CPD stated that 95 factories in three major industrial zones - Gazipur, Savar-Ashulia and Narayanganj-Narsingdi - were completely shut down between January and August 2026, leaving 61,881 people une...
