Gazipur, July 11 -- A couple were killed after a covered van hit them while they were crossing the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Rakib Hasan, 35, son of Sekandar Ali Bepari of Uttar Ranipur village under Pirojpur Sadar upazila, and his wife Bithi Akter, 30.

Rakib worked in the Human Resources Department of Denimac Garments Ltd in the Gorgoria Masterbari area of Sreepur municipality.

The couple is survived by their nine-month-old child.

Kamruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Maona Highway Police Station, said the couple was crossing the highway in the Beraiderchala area of Sreepur around noon when an unidentified covered van travelling towards Mymensingh hit them.
