Brazil fan killed in clash over Argentina-Egypt WC match in Cumilla
Cumilla, July 8 -- A Brazil football team supporter was killed in a clash triggered by an argument during the Argentina-Egypt FIFA World Cup match in Cumilla on Tuesday night.
The deceased was identified as Md Shariful Islam, 32, son of Matiur Rahman, a resident of the Uttar Cheranga area in Jaldhaka upazila of Nilphamari district.
The incident took place around 10:30pm in the Dhanpur area under Uttar Durgapur union, adjacent to Kotbari Bishwa Road in Cumilla Adarsha Sadar upazila.
Sub-Inspector Sankar Kanti Das, in-charge of the Cantonment Police Outpost, said Shariful, a Brazil supporter, celebrated and taunted Argentina fans after Argentina conceded the opening goal during the match against Egypt.
