Bangladeshis are good at toppling dictators, but fail to build democracy: Mahfuz Anam
Dhaka, Oct. 4 -- The Daily Star Editor and Publisher Mahfuz Anam on Sunday said political affiliation has increasingly influenced professions and institutions, including the media, bureaucracy, police and intelligence agencies.
Speaking at the Bay of Bengal Conversation, organised by the Centre for Governance Studies, Anam criticised the politicisation of journalism, saying journalists may have personal political preferences but should not openly align themselves with political parties.
"You can have a personal preference, and of course you have a right to vote. But in a profession where credibility is your lifeblood, how can you openly side with a political party and still expect that you will enjoy credibility?" he said.
