Dhaka, Aug. 19 -- At least nine people including Bangladeshis were killed after a massive fire broke out at a hotel in Kolkata in the early hours of Wednesday.

"We are currently in the process of verifying their identities. We remain in close and constant contact with our Deputy High Commission in Kolkata," a senior official told UNB without talking about reported death toll until verification is done.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will provide an update based on verified information received from the ground.

According to the fire service department, the Bangladeshi nationals travelled to Kolkata for medical treatment, Indian news agency ANI reported.
