, Oct. 2 -- An inmate of Bagerhat District Jail died at a hospital on Friday morning after reportedly choking on food while having breakfast inside the prison.

The deceased was identified as Chan Miah Faqir, 44, son of Helal Uddin Fakir of Fulhata village in Morrelganj upazila.

Md Mostafa Kamal, superintendent of Bagerhat District Jail, said food got stuck in Chan Miah's windpipe while he was having breakfast around 7:50am.

Prison officials immediately took him to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment, he said.
