Dhaka, Feb. 24 -- The government has appointed Md Ali Hossain Fakir as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP), replacing incumbent chief Baharul Alam.

The decision was announced in an official notification issued by the Home Ministry on Tuesday.

The order said the appointment takes immediate effect.

Ali Hossain previously served as an Additional Inspector General of Police at the Armed Police Battalion (APBn) of the Bangladesh Police.
