Dhaka, July 26 -- Acting President Hafiz Uddin Ahmad paid tribute to the martyrs of the War of Liberation at the National Memorial in Savar on Sunday morning.

He laid a wreath at the memorial around 11:40am.

After placing the wreath, the acting President observed a moment of silence as a mark of respects for the martyrs.

He was also given a guard of honour by a contingent of the Armed Forces. Later, he signed the visitors' book.

The acting President is also scheduled to pay tribute to Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital. He will lay wreaths at their graves in Zia Mausoleum in Zia Udyan.
