Bagerhat, Sept. 27 -- slit body of a minor girl in a sack near a betel leaf orchard in Mollahat upazila of Bagerhat district on Saturday night.

The deceased was identified as Muslima Khatun, 7, daughter of van driver Islam Sheikh of Kochuria village in the upazila. She was a student at a local madrasah.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mollahat Police Station Md Shahadat Hossain said locals spotted a suspicious sack near the betel leaf plantation in the village around 9:00pm and informed police.

Later, police went to spot and recovered Muslima's body from inside the sack, he said, adding that her throat was slit.

The OC said police are working to uncover the motive behind the murder and arrest those involved.
