Sirajganj, March 2 -- At least two people were killed and 15 others injured in a clash over the occupation of a government pond in Goal Para village of Raiganj upazila in Sirajganj on Monday.

The deceased were identified as Ismail Hossain, 45, son of late Mansher Ali, and Abdus Salam, 50, son of Maidan Ali, both residents of the village.

Golam Kibria, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Raiganj Police Station, said the government pond had been leased by Asmat Ali of the same village and was later released for the development of a mosque. Tensions between two influential local groups over the pond had been ongoing for some time.
