, March 25 -- Two cousins drowned in the Kaliganga River in Balirtek of Sadar upazila in Manikganj district on Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as Akash Mia, 21, son of Azhar Ali and Sadia, 16, daughter of Shukur Ali of Sultanpur village in Harirampur upazila.

Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said Akash, Sadia and Sadia's younger sister went to the Kaliganga river to take a bath at noon.

At one stage, the younger sister of Sadia drifted away from the bank, prompting Akash and Sadia to rush to rescue her.

Later, both Akash and Sadia were swept away by the strong current of the river and drowned.

Local people recovered the bodies from the river.
