India, Sept. 30 -- Jonquel Jones delivered a double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds as the No. 8 seed New York Liberty stunned the top-seeded Minnesota Lynx 87-71 in Game 2 of their WNBA playoff series on Tuesday night. Breanna Stewart also scored 21 points, while Sabrina Ionescu added 18 as New York completed the series win and booked its place in the semifinals.

The result also made WNBA history, with the Liberty becoming the first No. 8 seed to knock out a No. 1 seed in the league's 30-year history. The matchup was made possible by the WNBA's current playoff format, introduced in 2022, which places the top eight teams directly into the quarterfinals and allows the highest and lowest seeds to meet in the postseason.
