India, Aug. 29 -- The Trump administration is moving closer to ending the 60-day grace period that allows certain foreign workers to remain in the United States after losing their jobs. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) proposal, titled "Eliminating the Discretionary 60-day Grace Period," has cleared a key White House regulatory review, bringing it closer to publication.

The proposal was reviewed by the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) and the review was concluded on August 27. However, the measure is not yet a final rule and has not taken effect. The proposal must still go through the next stages of the federal rulemaking process before the existing framework can be changed.
