India, July 28 -- FTSE 100 rose on Tuesday, with a sharp rise in consumer goods stocks helping the index to offset some losses in banking and energy sectors. Unilever gained 6.3% after announcing impressive performance in the quarter and upgraded its financial outlook for 2026, backed by impressive performance in the US and emerging markets.
Crude oil prices kept sliding and took along with them stocks of energy companies. Shell lost 0.8% and BP dropped 0.4% after US President Donald Trump announced that there is a good chance of reaching a deal with Iran. These remarks brought down any concern about supply disruptions and tensions between Iran and other countries, and hence energy stocks.
