India, June 29 -- Ireland had barely finished celebrating its memorable T20I series victory over India when another major development followed. Just hours after the historic triumph over the world champions, Irish cricket confirmed that head coach Heinrich Malan will step down from his role.

The South African coach is leaving as part of what Cricket Ireland described as a "planned transition." The board also confirmed that a new head coach will be appointed before Ireland begins its five-match ODI series against Afghanistan in August.
