India, July 11 -- Indian music has lost one of its most iconic voices. Legendary playback singer S Janaki, fondly known as Janaki Amma and the Nightingale of South India, died on Saturday at the age of 88. She breathed her last at Apollo BGS Hospitals in Mysuru, leaving behind a musical legacy that shaped Indian cinema for more than six decades.

The heartbreaking news was confirmed by her granddaughter, Apsara Vydyula, who shared an emotional note on Instagram, revealing that the veteran singer passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family. The hospital later confirmed that Janaki died at 7.30 pm after suffering multiple cardiac arrests despite intensive medical treatment.
