India, July 21 -- Twenty-six-year-old merchant navy officer Akhil Joyan from Kerala was among the four Indians killed after a Russian attack targeted a cargo ship near Ukraine's Port of Odesa. The attack has left his family in shock, just months after his engagement, while Indian authorities are working to bring his body back home.

Who Was Akhil Joyan?

Akhil Joyan, 26, was a merchant navy officer from Vellarikkundu in Kerala's Kasaragod district. He got engaged just three months ago and was scheduled to get married in April next year. After spending some time at home, he had rejoined work only a month ago. Akhil was the only son of his parents.
