India, July 7 -- The central government's Ministry of External Affairs has announced the appointment of Sanjeev Jain as India's new ambassador to North Korea. He will take over from previous ambassador Aliawati Longkumer.

This morning, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced that it has appointed Sanjeev Jain as the new Indian ambassador to the People's Democratic Republic of Korea (the formal name of North Korea) via a brief and formal statement.

The statement also mentioned that Jain will take up the assignment shortly. India is one of the few countries to maintain cordial relations with both North Korea and South Korea.
