India, April 11 -- Iraq's parliament has elected Kurdish politician Nizar Amidi as the country's new president, marking a significant political change in a time of instability in the region and the vote comes five months after parliamentary elections failed to produce a decisive majority, prolonging political uncertainty. Amidi's appointment comes at a time when Iraq is having trouble with its economy and security because of rising tensions between the U.S. and Israel and Iran.
