India, June 17 -- Grammy-nominated rapper Mystikal, once one of the most recognisable names in Southern hip-hop, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty in a rape case that stemmed from allegations made in 2022.

The rapper, whose real name is Michael Lawrence Tyler, rose to fame in the late 1990s and early 2000s with chart-topping tracks such as Shake Ya Ass, Danger (Been So Long), Here I Go and Bouncin' Back. During the peak of his career, he also received Grammy nominations, including recognition for Best Rap Album and Best Male Rap Solo Performance.

But his music career has long been overshadowed by legal troubles and the latest sentencing marks another major chapter in his criminal history.
